THORNHILL SCHOOL CHILDREN VISIT WESTCROFT.
In February 2018 Thornhill school children visited Westcroft on an educational visit. Ten excited and enthusiastic Nursery and/or Primary children entered the building and were shown around by Dr Heasman and Anna (Lead Practice Nurse). Dr Stevenson kindly demonstrated how a stethoscope worked on a willing volunteer (or two!). The students were also shown different pieces of equipment in the working environment.
Following juice and a biscuit the students were shown some slides to help them engage and guide them to query and think about eating healthily and keeping active. The students were able to take part in using a peak flow meter which is an instrument to help a clinician measure your 'puff'. There were also numerous stethoscopes available for the students to listen to each others heart sounds.
The children were each given a sticker and a pack to take home. The pack contained some information for parents about self-help and care.
Any fears that the Surgery may have had about inviting 10 children to the Surgery were quickly expelled as the children behaved beautifully. Parents have given permission for the photos to be shown on our website.
